Bowel Cancer Test

What is the Bowel Cancer Test?

The Bowel Cancer Test can recognize small portions of blood in your faeces (poo) that are unidentifiable to the human eye. This allows it to identify any possible signs of bowel disease or cancer present in your body.

Why should you get a Bowel Cancer Test?

You should take this test if you are experiencing bleeding related to bowel abnormalities. These abnormalities cause bleeding more often than normal tissue does and may eventually develop into cancer. The presence of blood in your stool indicates bowel abnormalities. Treatment is more effective when cancer is diagnosed early on.

How do you get a Bowel Cancer Test?

The Bowel Cancer Test includes a stool sample that must be collected with the tools provided. Once it is collected, you may use the pre-paid envelope in the kit and send it to our accredited Ireland lab for quick and accurate results.

What tests are run on my sample?

  • Quantitative Faecal Immunochemical Test (qFIT). This tests for concealed or occult traces of blood in your stool sample which may be indicative of greater issues.

When will my test kit arrive?

If you order your test kit before end of business hours Monday-Friday, it will be sent out that same day via An Post. Your kit should arrive within 2 to 4 workdays. If you would like to keep track of your package, a tracking service is available; simply select Special Delivery at checkout.

Your Bowel Cancer Test results will be available within one workday after your sample arrives at our certified Ireland lab. A member of our Patient Services team will directly contact you with your results. In addition, you may access these results online through the secure patient area on our website.

What should I do once I get my results?

A positive test indicates potential bleeding in your digestive tract, but it does not always mean you have cancer. This result could indicate several other issues, including ulcers, haemorrhoids, polyps, or benign tumours. If you receive a positive test result, it is best to discuss these results with a doctor regarding next steps. Further testing and procedures may be necessary to identify the source of the bleeding and successfully treat potential conditions.

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
