  • Gonorrhoea (urine, throat swab and rectal swab)
  • Syphilis

  • Mycoplasma

Is this test accurate?

This blood and urine test is a very accurate and comprehensive test. The HIV accuracy is over 99.8% if you wait at least the recommended 28 days since any incident you are concerned about. All Better2Know tests are CE marked and analysis is performed in our accredited laboratories.

How does home testing work?

With a Better2Know Confidence Screen, you collect a sample of blood and urine at home using the kit provided.

After you have ordered your test online, we will post your discreet test pack out to you (the postal pack is plain so no one will know what it is). Your pack includes everything that you need for your test. Inside your pack, you will find a form, three finger-prick lancets, a small gold-topped tube, a urine collection container, wipes, and a postage-paid return envelope. In addition, we will send you a copy of the sample collection instruction leaflet. The leaflet will give you clear instructions on how to collect your samples with ease. It is important that you follow the instructions on the leaflet carefully.

You will get an email when your results are ready, but you can also log on securely and check online whenever you like.

When will my test kit arrive?

If you order your home test before 4pm Monday to Friday, we will dispatch it the same day. Your test should arrive within 2 to 4 days. Delivery times will depend on where you live.

How long before I get my Confidence screen results?

The results of your Confidence Screen should be ready five working days from the time your samples arrive at the laboratory. Some results will be ready more quickly. You can log on to check the progress of your tests whenever you like.

What happens if my test result is positive?

If your HIV result is positive we will call you promptly and arrange for you to have a second test. This additional test is included in the price. If your second test is also positive, then we can help you decide where you would like to be referred to for treatment, and any other support you need. This can include talking to an HIV specialist consultant and the Terrence Higgins Trust.

For the other tests in your screen, Better2Know can arrange a telephone consultation with one of our doctors. They will be able to write you a prescription and you can choose to have any medication you need sent out to you (there will be a small fee for this service). If you prefer, you can take the results to your own GP practice and discuss them with your own doctor.

Is Better2Know testing confidential?

Yes, you can be assured that your results and details are completely confidential with Better2Know. We will not inform your doctor or anyone else without your permission.

How long should I wait after an encounter before getting a Confidence Screen?

You should wait at least 28 days since any incident you are concerned about before getting a Confidence Screen. If you test before this time, then the STI tests may not be as accurate as they can be. You can purchase your test kit whenever you like, but please do not collect the samples until the 28 day window period has been reached.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will you send my kit to me?

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
