H. Pylori Stomach Ulcer Test

What is the Better2Know H. Pylori Stomach Ulcer test?

An infection with H. Pylori bacteria will damage the lining of your stomach. As a result, this protective lining is no longer safe from your stomach acid which will then cause stomach ulcers. Though stomach ulcers are common and affect people of all ages, they primarily affect men and women over 60 years of age. It is estimated that between 50% and 70% of all adults worldwide are infected with H. Pylori bacteria.

Why should I consider an H. Pylori test to help detect potential stomach ulcers?

When you take an H. Pylori test, the test will diagnose a Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection. Awareness of this infection is critical, as an untreated infection can lead to various digestive disorders, such as stomach ulcers, gastritis and can sometimes progress to stomach cancer. Untreated stomach ulcers specifically result in long-term damage, including gastric obstruction and internal bleeding. If you have a stomach ulcer, you may display any of the following symptoms:

  • Pain that shoots upward from the stomach to the back or neck
  • Heartburn
  • Indigestion
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Feeling and being sick

How does the H. Pylori Stomach Ulcer test work?

Once you receive your home test kit, please follow the instructions provided to take your faeces (poo) sample. All necessary equipment and a pre-paid postage envelope are included, so you will send your faeces sample to our accredited laboratory in Ireland after collecting your sample. We will analyze your sample and provide accurate results within three working days.

What tests will be run on my faeces sample?

Since the presence of H. Pylori antigens in your sample means that you are infected with these bacteria, a positive test result is confirmation that you are at risk of developing stomach ulcers, digestive problems, and disorders and that you require treatment to clear this infection.

When will my home test kit arrive?

When you order the test kit before 4pm Monday-Friday, your package will be sent out that same day. It should arrive within 2 to 4 workdays via An Post, depending on your location.

How do I get my test results?

Within three workdays of our lab receiving your sample, your results will be ready. You can check your secure patient portal on our website periodically for results, which will immediately be listed in the portal once available. In addition, a member of our Patient Services team will contact you directly to discuss your results as soon as they are ready.

What should I do about my test results?

If you test positive for H. Pylori, the best next step is to meet with a doctor to discuss treatment or potential further testing. Better2Know can help arrange this with a private doctor in your area, or you can take your results to your GP if you prefer.

How do I order my home test?

Just select ‘Add to Basket’ and proceed to checkout. Our Patient Services team is available 24/7 on the number listed above if you prefer to process your order over the phone or have any questions.

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready.
