Herpes Swab Test

What is Herpes?

The Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) is a viral infection that occurs in two forms: HSV I and HSV II. Herpes Simplex Type I infection is generally associated with sores or blisters around the mouth and lips. Infection with Herpes Simplex Type II virus will generally cause blisters and sores around the genital area. It is however important to note that the location of any blisters does not always correspond to one or the other Herpes Simplex Virus types. If left untreated, you may experience regular painful outbreaks that could otherwise be managed with creams or medication. HSV II is a sexually transmitted infection that is often associated with genital sores. HSV I is also an STI as the virus can be transferred to the genital area if you engage in oral sex during an outbreak in you or your partner.

How is Herpes transmitted?

Both types of the Herpes Simplex Virus are spread through sexual contact that includes vaginal, anal and oral intercourse. HSV I also considered a sexually transmitted infection, as it can be transferred to the genitals through sexual contact. This commonly occurs if you or your partner are experiencing an HSV I outbreak and engage in sexual activities, particularly oral sex. The virus is then localised around the infected individual’s genitals and is recognised as HSV II.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will you send my kit to me?

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
