Vitamin D Testing

What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is produced naturally when the body is exposed to sunlight, but it can also be ingested by consuming healthy foods, such as salmon, mackerel, dairy, end egg yolks. This vitamin primarily manages your immune system and osseous health by regulating phosphate and calcium levels and maintaining bone, muscle, and teeth health.

What does it mean if you are Vitamin D deficient?

Low Vitamin D levels result in bone and muscle pain, muscle weakness, mood swings, fatigue, hair loss, and some mental health issues. Children can experience rickets and adults can experience osteoporosis. If left undetected, Vitamin D deficiency can cause more severe conditions, including obesity, diabetes, depression, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue syndrome, neurological issues, and increased pain sensitivity. How does the Vitamin D home test process work?

This test requires a blood sample. You will receive a test kit in the post that includes specific instructions to take this sample yourself. Using the tools and pre-paid envelope provided, you will collect your sample and send it to one of our accredited Ireland laboratories for testing and analysis.

When would my home test kit arrive?

Orders placed before end of business hours Monday-Friday are sent out the same day. You can expect your package to arrive in 2 to 4 days via An Post.

How will I get my Vitamin D test results?

Within one workday of your sample’s arrival at our testing facility, your results will be ready. A member of our team will contact you directly to relay your results, but you can also check the secure patient portal on our website whenever you wish, as the results will be listed there once available.

What should I do about my test results?

If your test results show a Vitamin D deficiency, we recommend you speak with a doctor. Better2Know can assist you in arranging a consultation with a private doctor in your area, or you can meet with your GP. It is essential that you meet with a healthcare professional to further discuss your results and next steps, as supplements or other lifestyle changes can help you avoid developing severe health conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will you send my kit to me?

If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.

Q: Why do you need my email address?

Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.

Q: Do I need to use my real name?

No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.

Q: What does the kit packaging look like?

It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.

Q: What if I have any more questions?

You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
